Microman 2
The blue, red, and yellow ops found on Sakura’s uniform are simple and clean. Chun Li’s leggings, boots, undies, as well as Sakura’s shirt and knickers are all molded. Most of the body colors are shot in plastic.
The paint isn’t intricate or anything, but generally well done. or at least a boy who can pull off drag pretty well. As with Sakura, the head sculpt is off, but at least we can tell it’s supposed to be a girl. Li’s bust size should please most of her male fan base. Her boots are simple but look close to the source material. Once again the soft goods are pretty easy to separate here –the shoulders come off without much effort, as does the head. The puffy shoulders, open skirt, spiked bracelets, and hair buns all look pretty decent. It doesn’t look that great.Ĭhun Li’s outfit appears to have been captured pretty well here. Since the hair hides the headband from the back, these streamers are plugged into a hole in the back of her noggin. The long ends from Sakura’s headband run down to the bottom of her skirt. In fact the face appears to be a bit androgynous in nature that hair cut doesn’t help much either. The head sculpt is a tad generic detail-wise. The soft goods are pretty easy to pop off in most cases –in fact the shoulder sleeves keep popping off quite easily. The plastic body underneath the soft goods isn’t very detailed, except for the sneaker sculpt. Sakura has a soft sculpted head, shoulders, necktie, skirt, sneaker-tops, and wrist bands on top of her body. Both of these figures are certainly serviceable, but not great. This really isn’t a line one looks at for sculpting since the main attraction is the amount of articulation. The graphics are nicely laid out and the back shows off some nice poses. The packaging is serviceable and shows off the product well enough.
Tonight I cover both figures released by Takara: Chun Li and Sakura. I’m more of a DOA or MK kind of guy but that doesn’t mean I didn’t blow my fair share of quarters on the first couple of Street Fighter titles. I have to admit up front that while I’m a huge fan of fighting games, Street Fighter’s not at the top of the list for me. Recently we’ve gotten a set of Batman Begins figures and a pair of characters from the Street Fighter games. Predator line, which I have yet to pick up until I can find them at a reasonable price. First they announced production on a Spider-Man figure, which unfortunately fell through. After delivering some excellent Batman figures a while back, they managed to snag a few other interesting licenses. I’ve been keeping an eye on Takara’s Microman line for a few years now. Tonight with a review of two new Microman figures - tell us all about them, Unreleased figures include the Beetroopers.Regular guest reviewer Sean Teeter, our very own College Bum, is back.Perfect Shining Tector Gold Shining Arthur These lucky draw figures were released in very limited quantities and demand a lot of money on the secondary market. LED Powers had fewer exclusives than its predecessor, but had far more lucky draw releases. The LED packs are also only compatible with the new-mold figures for LED Powers. However, except for Super Satake, no figure in the line is Magnemo/Super Magnetic System compatible aside from their feet. The Laser Microman figures have magnets in their feet to allow them to interact with the toys in the previous line. Ironically, several Transformers molds were used to fill out the line while lowering production costs a mirroring of history. The Super Microman mold from the previous year makes a return in this line, being used for Super Satake. The LED Powers toyline introduced the Laser Microman mold, which would be used for the majority of the figures. The line garnered a lukewarm reception among collectors and kids and was canceled in January 2001, leaving a handful of prototypes that were shown off at conventions ultimately unreleased. LED Powers is characterized by LR-44 battery-powered electronic packs included with most toys in the line that make an LED in a figure's chest light up when attached. The line was launched by Takara in December of 1999. Microman: LED Powers (ミクロマン レッドパワーズ) is the sequel to the Super Magnetic System line. From left to right: Walt, Arthur, Izam, and Odin
